A collaboration between Stanley Grove and Gorton Mount Primary Academies the project worked with a total of 103 year five pupils discussing the contrast between the historical city of Manchester and what it is like now.

 

The project encouraged the children to look at the city, its buildings and its people across as wider visual field as possible. As they walked with us through the streets and squares of the city ‘things would catch their eye’ and these will be things they never expected to see. Prior to visiting the city centre for the day the children worked with their teachers in studying the maps of the city that had been prepared for them. Each of the city walks was planned around a specific area of study in the Year 5 curriculum and related to urban life in both the Victorian era and the present day.

An exhibition was held at the RIBA Hub, Portland Street Manchester.
