This project was based on the the approach that promotes children’s creative learning through their experience and understanding of the built environment of their town or city. This is an approach that embraces the subjects of the curriculum that are integral to the process of making such and environment, the life and culture that it represents and the ways in which such an environment is sustained.

During the children’s visits to the exhibition and workshops at University of Manchester the children were introduced to the potential and practical application of their learning in an environment outside of school. The breadth of this learning continued to be increased in scale through their experiencing a sense of place when they viewed the city from the roof terraces of the Manchester School of Architecture and in doing this they could locate where they live and where they go to school in the district of the city that is spread out below them.
