LEARNING IN THE BIOSPHERE

MANCHESTER INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL 2013

Learning in the biosphere Manchester International Festival 2013

Working with eight primary schools and two nurseries in Salford and Manchester we introduced children, their families and their teachers to the Biosphere as the earths atmosphere and structure that is the home of all living things. The aim was to explore the interconnected nature and ecological balance of the Biosphere and the part human life plays in stabilising and sustaining it now and in the future. By creating a model of a discussed space in the city centre the children discussed ways to create theoretical urban farm and means of how we can grow in the city. The children drew, built structures and planted in their school gardens.

Learning in the Biosphere has been a project in which we worked with children in eight primary schools and two nurseries in Salford and Manchester to introduce local children, their teachers and families to the Biosphere as the earths atmosphere and structure that is the home of all living things. For them to work with us in experiencing and exploring the interconnected nature and ecological balance of the Biosphere and the part human life plays in stabilising and sustaining it now and in the future. The programme of workshops ran over the summer months of 2013 and during this time the children worked with creative collaborators including - artists, architects, scientists and engineers.
